Fall Placement 2012
My field placement was at The Village of Winston Park. This is a home for seniors and provides different levels of care. There is Retirement, Assisted Care which provides assistance of daily activities for residents who are mentally alert. There is the Supportive Care/Memory Care floor for residents with a cognitive impairment such as dementia or Alzheimer's Disease. As well as Long Term Care for residents who have health issues such as a stroke and other debilitating illnesses. Furthermore, the Special Care Unit/EBY is for residents who have behaviour issues for many different reasons. The Village of Winston Park operates under the umbrella of the Schlegel Villages operated by the Schlegel family. It is part of a continuum care which supports all levels of care that a senior might need throughout their life. It is a facility that is recognized within the Kitchener-Waterloo area. The Village of Winston Park's motto is, "It Takes a Village to Care." Six of their homes opened between 2001 to 2005. This Village uses the resident-centered approach (The Village of Winston Park, 2012). This seniors residence is unique, because it is a village. Within the Retirement home, the different corridors have signs and are given street names. Along the venue, there are different rooms which incorporate a Library, a Fitness Room, The Fireside Lounge, Winnie's which is the pub, and the Community Room. The layout of the village does not institutionalize it and makes it feel like home.
The Mission of The Village of Winston Park:
"Life purpose within a caring community Our mission is to provide holistic health care in a home environment, located within an internal neighbourhood design that promotes a caring community, with emphasis on optimal health and life purpose for each Resident " (The Village of Winston Park, 2012).
From October 10th until November 22nd on Wednesday's and Thursday's, I was on the Supportive Care/Memory Care Floor. Then from November 26th until December 7th, I was on Long Term Care for block placement from Monday through to Friday.

Winter Placement 2013
My field placement for my final semester was at The Village of Winston Park again. I really wanted to go back to Winston Park as I really enjoyed my previous experience there in the Fall. I also really liked the atmosphere. This time around, I was on the Retirement floor; however, every Thursday for the morning half I was up on the Supportive Care/Memory Care Floor as well. I ran my own Movie Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune Songs on Retirement. I have had the opportunity to work within different care levels at Winston Park and I also got a lot of experience with the Recreation Administrative duties. Through my two field experiences at this home, I have been hired as casual, which I am very excited and happy about.

The Village of Winston Park's Contribution to the Community
It is an important part of the community, because it is a place where the residents of Kitchener-Waterloo can go to during their senior years. In addition, individuals with different limitations have access to an up-to-date facility. The Schlegel family work with Conestoga College and The University of Waterloo to improve the life of a senior through research and training. Students of Conestoga College have a close connection with The Village of Winston Park. Students within the Recreation and Leisure Field are given the opportunity to complete their practicums there. They are also incorporating a residence to be built near the University of Waterloo to help facilitate learning. The retirement home is also affiliated with an elementary school and a daycare. During the year, the children visit the home and the seniors enjoy watching and participating in their activities, depending on their level of care. If they cannot participate, the residents enjoy watching the children. Different denominations of faith are encouraged to visit and mass is held for Catholic mass and non-denominational mass. Volunteers from the community go in and are encouraged to visit. The Village of Winston Park is an important part of the Kitchener-Waterloo area.
